WHAT IS YOUTH WITH A MISSION?

WHAT IS YOUTH WITH A MISSION?

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known”.
Loren Cunningham founded Youth With A Mission in 1960. Loren had a vision of young people going on short term missions in waves upon waves going over each continent.

Loren wanted to give young people a chance to pass the love of Jesus onto others through words and actions – without having to first go through a long theological education.
At that time this was revolutionary. But today YWAM is sending thousands of people into short term and longterm missions every year.

Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth involved in missions. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people of all ages. We currently work in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries, with over 18,000 staff.

One of the joys of participating in YWAM is to work with people from many nations. YWAM’s staff (known as “YWAMers”) come from over 130 countries.

YWAM believes that the gospel is not just words, but also actions. Therefore YWAM is working in the three areas Evangelism, Mercy Ministries & Training
Evangelism: Telling people about Jesus

Mercy Ministries: Showing the love of God through social work and healthcare.

Training: Equipping Christians to help others, to share their faith and to live according to Gods standards in the every day life.
